Have you ever actually looked on the side of your cosmetic product, typed in the impossible-to-pronounce name of an ingredient you don't recognize and had a 2 minute read about the possible, or even worse - KNOWN - side effects caused by some of those ingredients?
You'd wonder exactly what we wondered - how the f**k is this allowed to happen?! How are companies allowed to produce ingredients - that can literally disrupt your endocrine system, or affect your fertility, or cause cancer - and then go through any sort of process to have the said ingredient permitted on the International Nomenclature of Cosmetic Ingredients (INCI) for use by the average person in several products per day?
If ingredients known to cause cancer are permitted in everyday use products, what exactly do they NOT permit? Or is the problem a lack of accountability in the cosmetic industry, especially in Australia?
Australia, unfortunately, is so self-regulating that it makes us a goldmine for international companies to mass produce harmful cosmetics which they then sell to our public.
You may also be horrified to know that cosmetic companies sometimes KNOW that their ingredients don't help or actually do harm and use this as a way to generate further sales by demand! It literally is chaos out there!
An ingredient that can be extracted naturally from a plant and provide similar benefits MUST be a generally safer and better option than one that has gone through a synthetic chemical extraction or modification process in a laboratory.
Natural ingredients also contain naturally-occurring proteins and minerals which the body uses to replenish it's own levels of such nutrients. Kinda almost like that's the way it was meant to be...
