What Type of Skin Do You Have?

There are a lot of skincare products designed to target the specific concerns of dry skin, oily skin, combination skin or sensitive skin - but how do you know which type of skin you have?


It sounds complicated, but it's really not. You can work out what type of skin you have just by looking at and feeling your skin.


Dry Skin

Dry skin may likely appear to have fine lines, red or itchy patches, or flakiness. It will feel dry to the touch and not at all oily. It will feel tight to the person and dry skin will have less elasticity, taking longer to return to its original shape when pinched.


Oily Skin

Oily skin may appear to shine, may be red and likely suffer from blemishes and/or acne. Oily skin may feel uncomfortable for the person. It will likely feel oily to the touch, across most of the body in some cases, but primarily on the face. Oily skin will generally have less visible wrinkles but likely have more visible pores which can become enlarged with excessive sebum.


Combination Skin

Combination skin may be prone to the appearance and symptoms of both dry and oily skin, possibly presenting at the same time on different zones on the face. The sebum production may be The T-zone (across the forehead, and down the nose and chin) will often be oily while cheeks and outer facial area remain dry.


Sensitive Skin

Sensitive skin is that which is highly reactive to particular environmental factors. These can include pollution, smoke, chemicals, plants, cosmetic ingredients and many other irritants. When sensitive skin reacts with an irritant it can become hot, itchy, red, swollen or otherwise damaged, sometimes with longterm affects.


Normal Skin

Normal skin feels supple and generally smooth, with a healthy sebum production level. It won't feel oily or dry, or have redness or irritation.
